1. ROUND START ATTENDANCE CHECK
Judges should have their webcam on.
Your emailed ballot tells you the first name of each
debater in your round.
Missing students? The team’s other students have to give the missing student’s speech.
Are you missing an entire team? Send for help in the
Zoom breakout room.
FIRST ROUND—GIVE SOME GRACE—but things need to get going.
AFTER THE FIRST ROUND—5 MINUTES GRACE MAX. Prep Time begins then unless Jim Hanson tells you differently (and you can and should ask).
Tech Issues
Microphone, Sound, Webcam Issues?
TRY ONE OF THESE:
--Is student wearing headphones? If they can use the computer sound/mic, usually
fixes the problem.
--Any student: In the lower left of
the Zoom screen—change the settings so it matches the headphones, mic, webcam
they are using.
--Reboot the computer. Reminder
students aren’t required to have webcam on.
Bad Internet?
--Tell the student to move closer
to the wifi router
--If parent is there, reboot the
router
--Switch to just audio—no webcam.
Weird/other problems? Reboot the computer.

Your Script—Please read this or something very close
to it.
I want you to know I support you. You might be scared
and that is okay and natural to feel.
I want you to turn on your microphones. Do you support
each other? (get them to turn on mics and say “YES!”)
Great. For this round, you will be debating this
topic:

school homework should be banned. (Tournament)

Topic 5 Friday: College
should be free.
Topic 6 Friday: Impromptu
(announced 30 minutes before debate)
___ team you are on the Prop side.
_____ team you are on the Opp side.
Have one team with 2 students? Ask the 2 student
team “Who will be giving a second speech?”
As we begin the Prep Time, this is a reminder that
students must prepare on their own—no help from parents, family, friends, etc.
You prepare on your own and only with your debate partners.
Prop team, you stay in this room for Prep. Opp team, you go
to Breakout Room (+20).* Opp
team to get there, you go back to the main meeting and then to that room (the
greeter will help you if you need it).
Any Questions before we start?
Okay, 20 (30imp) minutes Prep begins now—Opp be back in this room in 20 (30imp) minutes. (TIME IT!)
*The Opp team goes to room
+20 (eg if you are in
Breakout room 8, Opp team goes to Breakout room 28).

MUST GO TO BOTH PREP ROOMS AT 5 DIFFERENT TIMES DURING MS PREP TIME—CHECK THE
CHAT MESSAGES AND MAKE SURE THE KIDS ARE BEHAVING WITH SUPPORT AND RESPECT.

student is doing well and how each student can improve and as the debate
finishes, who has won the debate and why.

the debate. These kids need positive faces, non-verbals,
and directions.

POINTS

We need the Winner and Points immediately or the
entire program gets delayed.
