SPEAKING TOURNAMENT
BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT

Have your speech ready to
go—including practicing it.
For Extemp
and Impromptu speaking—you will receive your topics at the beginning of your
rounds during the tournament and you prepare your speeches at that time.

Elementary
Tournament May 21 Rules Schedule (the invitation)
9am to 2:10pm plus finals/awards that
goes to 4pm
NOTE: It is important that you attend
ALL 3 of your Speaking Rounds and that you are ON TIME.
ON THE DAY OF THE TOURNAMENT
1. GO TO ZOOM -- BREAKOUT ROOM 1 BY 9AM
NOTE—THIS IS NOT THE SAME ZOOM
MEETING WE USE IN OUR AFTERSCHOOL CLASSES.
When you go to Breakout Room 1: Tell
our Climb Coach that you are here and ready.
2. THEN AT 9:20AM, GO BACK TO THE
ZOOM MAIN MEETING ROOM
Wait for announcements and Shared
Screen of the Posting with your speaking events and the breakout room for each.
Note, Are
you doing 2 speaking events? You go to one speaking event and then go to do the
other one right after that. What if you have Extemp
or Impromptu? Do that first—then go to your other speaking event.
“I’m nervous!”
That is a sign you care
and judges react positively to that.
It is also a sign you have a lot of pent up energy that is waiting to be used. Use it positively
for energy in your speaking!
These speeches are the same thing
you’ve been doing in your classes. You’ve got this.
Typically—after round 1 or 2—most of
the fear is gone and you are going to be eager to speak!
Throughout the speaking rounds and
the tournament, be supportive of others—including the other students and
judges.
